Sandwatch started in Barbados in 2001, and students have been measuring beaches in the Speightstown area ever since.  Speightstown lies on the northwest coast of Barbados and has many historic buildings.

We have conducted beach clean-ups and questionnaires; we regularly measure and take photos of our beaches; these photos are used by the Coastal Zone Management Unit. One of our beaches is used by turtles to lay their eggs.

In June 2007 we held a Community Sandwatch Exhibition and a poster competition, which was a great success and many people from the town came to learn about Sandwatch and what we have been doing.  Our present goal is to work actively to involve other schools in Barbados in Sandwatch.
