Flag of Sri Lanka |
Greetings from the Dharmaraja College,
Piliyandala, Sri Lanka!
"Ayubowan" Which means Greetings, long life, happiness and
welcome in our native Sinhala language. Our school is very happy to
join the Island family of nations in Sandwatch.
We joined Sandwatch" because we feel all of us are touched by
one great link, the waters of the mighty oceans that bring us
together. We all have common problems and together our people can
have a better to-morrow. The world is in an unhappy situation
today because adults have taken too much for granted. Its difficult to
change bad habits and attitudes of adults, but the freshness and the
innocence of the child beacons us all, to rectify our faults and give them
and through them, a better vision for all our people.
Sri Lanka is a beautiful Island in the Indian Ocean. It has a recorded
history of more than 3000 years and a literacy rate abover 90%. We are an
Island enriched by interactions with the Arabs and even colonial
domination by the Portuguese, Dutch and the British empires. To-day Sri
Lanka (Ceylon, Ceilan, Ceylan, Serendib) stands free amongst nations and
we look to our Island brothers and sisters to work together for a better
tomorrow..
Ayubowan!

My school has nearly 900 students both girls and boys from year 6-13
which is up to University entrance, Grade 13. My Geography students do
fairly in-depth studies in Geography and are very keen to communicate as
pen-friends and also exchange material. We have a computer laboratory with
15 computers and just a few days back (Late September 2006), got Internet
connectivity through a leased line, but with restricted" Sri Lanka
schoolnet access". I have a broadband internet connection in my home,
so I can download and also send data without additional expense to my
students. I use a Mac ibook G-4 laptop which I find useful to transfer
material and also for classroom teaching. My students seek friendship
round the world, exchange of correspondence via email or normal mail. Any
of the epals languages like Spanish, French..is ok as we can translate.
The main focus is to get the Children of the world talking to each other.
While we like to learn about other cultures we want to make the world know
about SRI LANKA. Greetings from Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean. |
